Ionization-chamber radiation survey meter (A radiation counting instrument with a gas-filled radiation detection chamber operated at the "ionization chamber" applied voltage region. A radiation incident on the meter detector produces a "saturation current" by collecting ion pairs produced by the ionization of the neutral gas molecules in a gas-filled chamber. It can be used for source calibration and dosimetry. Survey meters using ionization chamber technology include portable survey meters and probes used to measure gamma, x-ray, and beta emissions and include stationary area monitors designed with an internal detection chamber or interchangeable external probes.)
